Anya Adorni

I was born in Los Angeles, California, my family originating from Tuscany, Italy. My main medium of expression is oil painting, centered around the empowerment of women and my own personal exploration of the surrealist nature of the subconscious. As women, we are told not to be loud. Through my paintings I am on a constant search to find that muffled voice. My figures and vibrant colors aim to embolden women to express themselves and their bodies without the taboos that accompany the nude or clothed female body. I create dreamlike spaces for these figures, the walls of the canvas act as a portal we can traverse into in order to inspect the endless realm of what influences our subconscious and what lies beyond the veil. I also often accompany these paintings with short surrealist stories. I received my Bachelor of Arts at the University of California, Santa Barbara, completing my studies at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Bologna. After graduating, I lived in Rome for a year before moving to Barcelona to continue my art practice.
